Open Call for Research Affiliates

April 26, 2021

The Research Network for Philosophy and Technology, established in 2014, has become a hub that gathers the most renowned experts working on the intersection between philosophy and technology, including Carl Mitcham, Andrew Feenberg and Bernard Stiegler (1952-2020) among others. Since its founding, the network has endeavored to facilitate research and communication between different philosophical traditions and understanding of technology.

In the past years, it has organised and co-organised numerous conferences and publications, including the encounter between Sloterdijk and Stielger, 40 years after The Postmodern Condition, and a book series on Philosophy of Technology and Media with the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences Press. The network has recently started a journal “Technophany – A Journal on Philosophy and Technology.” The network is now operating in four languages, English, Chinese, Japanese and Spanish, with coordinators from different regions of the world.

The network is now open to research affiliates to join the network and become an active member in the community. Researcher affiliates will have the chance to be a part of an international community of scholars and researchers helping to shape the content and agenda of the research network.

This opportunity is open to doctoral, postdoctoral, early career and independent scholars who are looking for a platform to further develop their research and network within the field. Scholars should have (but not limited to) research interests in one or more of the following areas:

  • Philosophy of Technology
  • History of Technologies
  • History of Philosophy
  • Digital Studies
  • Art and Technology
  • Cybernetics
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Other relevant subjects

The affiliate position will be for two years, non-remunerated. Affiliates should expect to participate in our seminars/conferences/meetings and contribute to specific research agendas through contributing information about conferences and events, research articles, publications and resources with the network.

The amount of commitment is open to your availability and interest, though we are looking for people who are able to make an active contribution. Affiliates will benefit from being part of a scholarly network as a platform for developing their own work alongside other researchers in the field with access to opportunities to publish and participate in conferences through the network.

To submit: Please write a letter of intent to express your interest in joining, along with your areas of research, and a brief academic CV and a recent article that best demonstrates your research. Submission form ›

Deadline for submissions: 31st May 2021 or until positions are filled for the 2021-23 period.
